Hi there, 2020 was sure the year where we have learnt so much about skincare and due to this, now we have overwhelming choices in the skincare community like so many different products to choose. It is so confusing for the people who are completely a beginner at skincare. They tend to do some mistakes during their skincare which has to be avoided since they can irritate our skin barrier.
Now lets talk about healthy skin, everyone has an image of a perfect glass skin that looks flawless but only on camera and in reality healthy skin to me means taking care of your skin inside out.
I am here to help you to by telling how you can avoid these mistakes and what are the things you should keep in mind while doing your skincare.
So here are five mistakes that you have to avoid if you are a beginner at skincare.

Introducing actives too early.
As there is so much hype and overwhelming options we have right now it is easy to fall for the hype around the products. The main thing we do not notice is that our skin is not that mature to take such kind of actives.
When it comes to exfoliants it is always good to start with some gentle physical exfoliators and then using AHA or BHA which are less concentrated depending on your skin type and skin concern.
If you have any skin concern then visit a dermat in that way you will get to know about your skin more.
At last, I want to say that you do not need to start using actives when you are starting out in skincare a basic skincare routine is more than enough and don't forget to keep yourself hydrated.
2. Harsh scrubs.
As we talked about physical exfoliators walnut scrubs or any scrub that contains harsh beads can disturb the skin barrier and make it more sensitive. Stay away from walnut scrubs especially. Go with scrubs that are more gentle on the skin and also gets the job done.
Face shop, klairs and Cetaphil have some gentle exfoliators so investing in them is so beneficial to skin rather than using a harsh charcoal or coffee scrub.
3. Not giving the products time to work.
I think you might have heard "skincare is a journey" kinda quote yes I didn't believe it too until now but you should give your skin some time to show results. There is nothing like instant results when it comes to skincare. If you have given enough time to your products and if it is still not working on your skin then maybe that product isn't effective at all so, give your skin some time and be patient with your skincare.
4. Not finding the right moisturizer for your skin type.
I personally have struggled with this back in the day when I was starting out and building my skincare routine there weren't that better options as much as there are now. So, it was a huge problem for my skin.
Know your skin type and choose according to that.
Oily skin- gel moisturiser
combination skin-light hydrating moisturiser
dry skin-creamy moisturiser that doesn't feel greasy at all.
5. Sunscreen.
Make sure you are using sunscreen as last step in your skincare routine. I have my favourite sunscreen recommendations in my previous skincare blog post so, do check that out. By using sunscreen regularly, I have observed that my pigmentation has slightly disappeared and the acne scars faded.
Thanks for sticking till here I hope this was a bit informative. Tell me what mistake you did when you started taking care of your skin and how you got better at it.
Check out my other fashion related posts, they are mostly "how to" for beginners who are starting of with fashion and hope you will like them as well. I'll be back with another post soon until then, bye bye:)
